EEID 2018 Hike: Conic Hill and the east shores of Loch Lomond
This 2-3 hour hike starts in the hamlet of Balmaha, on the east shores of Loch Lomond (description and route map).
It is a short, although relatively steep ascent up Conic Hill, with beautiful views of the Loch and surrounding hills.
For those looking for a more leisurely stroll, it’s possible to walk along the side of the Loch on the Balmaha Millennium Forest Path (2km).
A packed lunch will be provided. Bring cash/card if you want to nip in for a pint, tea, or ice cream in Balmaha.
Due to the high number of hike participants, we have been requested by Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park to stagger the start times. Buses will therefore be leaving the University every half hour starting from 9am. A sign up sheet will be posted in the coffee area in the Glasgow University Union to reserve places on the different coaches. The earliest bus returning to the University will arrive back by 14:30.
Please note that the first and third coaches (those leaving the University at 9am and 10am) will stop at Glengoyne Distillery on the return journey for whisky tours at 13:20 and 14:20, respectively. The cost for this tour is £9 per person.
What to bring?
While May and June are typically nicer months, the weather in Scotland is always unpredictable. We recommend bringing a full set of waterproofs (a rain jacket at minimum!) and good walking/hiking shoes. Expect to get a bit muddy, and be pleasantly surprised if you don’t!
